Microfluidic Platform

The Microfluidic Platform combines optical and fluidic components, enabling the testing of microfluidic chips produced in our facility. It also allows real-time visualization and adjustment of droplet sizes during production, thanks to the integration of a microscope equipped with a high-speed camera.


Optical Components

The system is equipped with the following optical elements for enhanced imaging and analysis:

  • Inverted Microscope Axio Observer 3 from Zeiss, paired with a 7-channel fluorescence light source (Solid-State Light Source Colibri 7)
  • Fast Camera EoSens CL 1362 from Mikroton for high-speed imaging
  • AcCellerator L1 High-Power LED Illumination System from ZellMechanik Dresden, providing precise and reliable lighting.


Microfluidic Pressure and Flow Control

The system incorporates advanced microfluidic pressure and flow controllers from Fluigent for precise flow regulation:

1. Pressure-Based Microfluidic Flow Controller (MFCS-EX):

  • Features 8 channels, each with a different pressure range:
    • 2 channels with pressures down to -800 mbar
    • 2 channels with pressures up to 1000 mbar
    • 2 channels with pressures up to 2000 mbar
    • 2 channels with pressures up to 7000 mbar

2. Flow Measurement and Feedback Control:

  • Equipped with a Flowboard and Flow Sensors to enable accurate flow measurement and closed-loop feedback control, maintaining a constant flow rate by adjusting pressure.
  • Available flow sensors include:
    • 2x Flow Unit S
    • 1x Flow Unit M
    • 1x Flow Unit XL
