Dr. Yohalie Kalukula

Position: Post Doc

Project: The extracellular matrix (ECM) regulates cell behavior through its physico-chemical properties, shaping survival, proliferation, migration, and fate across development and disease. Cell competition is a central mechanism allowing less fit cell populations to be actively replaced by their fitter counterparts. How the ECM regulates this mechanism remains unclear. Here, we examine how matrix mechanics regulate competition outcomes in mixed cell populations.

Aman Sharma

Position: PhD

Project: I try to understand how epithelial integrity and homeostasis are maintained or disrupted in multilayer skin epithelia.

Dr. Pablo Gottheil

Position: Post Doc

Project: I study the mechanics of cell layers and tumor development. Using Bayesian inversion, I develop approaches to infer 2.5D internal stresses in cell monolayers on elastic substrates. Furthermore, I investigate the 3D formation of invasive cancers arising from fibroblasts (fibrosarcoma) using digital pathology, in-vitro experiments, and computational simulations.

Cecile Daubech

Position: PhD

Project: Skin, the largest organ of the human body, constitutes the first protective barrier against environmental insults such as UV light, pathogens, chemical agents, or mechanical stresses. Using biophysical approaches, we investigate the physiological processes regulating tissue stratification in human in vitro epidermis.

Sushil Dubey

Position: Post Doc

Project: How mechanical forces regulate muscle and epithelial cell behavior, including in skin and kidney tissues. He focuses on nuclear mechanics in epithelial tissues during tissue homeostasis and disease.

Dr. Victoria Guglielmotti

Position: Post Doc

Project: This project explores how migrating cells leave persistent “footprints” in the extracellular matrix that influence the migration of subsequent cells, creating a form of cellular memory. Understanding this mechanism will provide new insights into collective cell migration and its role in tissue organization.
