Training and further education
All employees of the animal facility and scientists in the Core Facility must undergo continuous training in animal protection and welfare as well as other current topics in laboratory animal science (in accordance with EU Directive 2010/63/EU). The department ensures that individuals with different professional backgrounds receive targeted training based on their specialized functions:
- Performing procedures on animals
- Designing procedures and projects
- Caring for animals
- Euthanizing animals.
Some core modules are mandatory for all activities. Building on these, there are a wide variety of training modules specific to animal species and activities. These enable individuals to acquire the expertise they need and to further deepen their knowledge as required. Only those who can demonstrate that they are particularly qualified may carry out this important and valuable work on and with animals in order to ensure their maximum protection.
